Deadwiley August 6, 2011, 2011 Dear Friends, Advocates and Representatives : On April 13, 2011 Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia, signed into law the “Fair Criminal Record Screening Standards” Ordinance. Council-woman Donna Reed Miller of the 18 th Council District introduced the Bill. This legislation will make it easier for ex-offenders to be judged by their abilities, as opposed to their past.” On April 20, 2011, I faxed a “BAN THE BOX” Proposal to every member of the Corrections Committee in the New York State Assembly and members of the New York State Senate.   On June 14, 2011, I faxed the same Proposal to every member of the New York City Council. DO WE DESERVE TO RECEIVE A DIVIDEND FOR OUR INVESTMENT?

THE DEADWILEY TRUTH OP-ED COLUMN Do We Deserve to Receive a Dividend for our Investment ? By Eric M. Deadwiley Look People! Anyone could see that our first Black President is ignoring the plight and struggle of black people. Rising tides certainly did not lift up the black ships. Professor Cornel West is right. President Obama is surrounded by oligarchs and "Elitist." President Obama had to know that his election to the presidency would cause a white "Back-lash" on black people all around the country. Nowhere is this back-lash more evident than in New York City where I live.   However, there are things which President Obama could have done (and still can do) to help the masses of blacks suffering under this back-lash from other ethnic group’s that backed Hillary Clinton and did not want to see a black man as President. "BAN THE BOX" BILLS INTRODUCED IN NYS SENATE AND ASSEMBLY

“Ban the Box” Bills Introduced in NYS Senate and Assembly By Eric M. Deadwiley June 7, 2011 On April 20, 2011, I faxed a copy of a proposal to every member of the Corrections Committee in the New York State Assembly and members of the New York State Senate.   The proposal was to introduce a “Ban the Box” bill in New York State. As a result of this proposal, I received a call on May 16, 2011 from Ms. Sandy Stewart from New York State Senator Velmanette Montgomery’s office informing me that because of my proposal and the urging of other advocates, Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, of the 36 th Senate District will be introducing a Ban the Box bill in the Senate to correspond with Assemblyman Jeffrion Aubry’s Ban the Box bill in the NYS Assembly.   I am delighted to report that New York State Senate bill #S5427 , sponsored by Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson of the 36 th Senate District, and NYS Assembly bill #A07782 sponsored by Assembly-member Jeffrion L. Aubry of the 35 th Assembly Dist
THE DEADWILEY TRUTH OP-ED COLUMN Why Rev. Sharpton and Prof. West are Right By Eric M. Deadwiley April 29, 2011 There is a bitter debate raging about a heated discussion that was aired over the cable network MSNBC in a special titled: A Stronger America: The Black Agenda. The debate has been more about which one of these well accomplished and highly visible men (Reverend Al Sharpton or Professor Cornel West) got the better in the exchange which was over President Obama’s treatment of the black masses of people suffering in this economy. I believe the entire purpose of the program was lost in their dialogue. First, if you want to talk about the “Black agenda” you need to talk about it with people from the “Grass-roots” of black America. You need to speak to the social advocates and activist that have their fingers directly on the pulse of the black and brown community. Second, the MSNBC news network is not the proper venue to air a wide ranging discussion on the black agenda because t
