The University is open and the Professor is a “master Teacher.” Unified Junior Featherweight Champion Guillermo Rigondeaux 12-0-8 KO’s has the boxing world abuzz. The “squabble” appears to be over Rigondeaux’s defensive boxing style. There are some analyst who believe that Rigo has the power and ability to knock many of his opponents out but continue to play it safe. Many experts say that Rigos lengthy amateur career has him still fighting in an amateur posture. Then there are those who feel that Rigo should jump up in weight class to challenge tougher opponents that may bring out the puncher in him. I would agree that Rigo (at this time) needs to move up in weight class to draw better fights with tougher opponents, yet I believe that fighters in the Featherweight division will simply run to other weight classes like Abner Mares did last year. In the final analysis, Rigo does not fight himself. His opponents has to come to fight as well. ...

THE DEADWILEY TRUTH OP-ED COLUMN By Eric M. Deadwiley IS RACIAL BIGOTRY AND WHITE SUPREMACY A THING OF THE PAST? 45 th Governor of Alabama, George C. Wallace Jr. Today in American society, we all live in a different social climate than that of our Fathers, Mothers and Grandparents. We have a Black President for the first time in the history of this great nation. We have more political representation than at any point in the history of America. Blacks now hold more positions in Federal, State, City and local governments than in previous generations. In fact, I don’t believe that anyone could say–with a straight face that things have not changed considerably since the days of slavery and Jim Crow in America. This is why a firestorm of criticism is being launched at our esteemed elder, scholar, activist, intellectual and civil rights icon, Harry Belafonte, for the statements he made in ...

For over three months a Latino Street Gang named the “Netas” has been occupying an area of benches and tables on the Hart Street side of the Heritage Row Playground located in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY. The Heritage Row Playground was named in recognition and on behalf of the Heritage Row Houses. The Heritage Row Houses is a 12 row-house complex of 1 family–3 story houses built by Habitat For Humanity’s year 2000 “Jimmy Carter Work Project.” President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter helped build the houses, which climaxed in the dedication of Habitat’s 100,000th house. This was the first time in the history of New York City that a children’s Playground has been named in dedication of houses. Historically, Parks, Playgrounds, Streets and Bridges were only named after “persons,” with almost (if not) all being dedicated “posthumously.” This street gang has been unlawfully assembling in and around the playground. They have been vandalizing the area with ...

On Saturday, May 14, 2013, at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, two of the world’s top boxers competed for boxing’s most coveted status, which is to be boxing’s “pound-for-pound” King. In one corner, current pound-for-pound holder, Floyd “Money” Mayweather 44-0 and the Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez 42-0-1. There were many fans and boxing analyst who believed that Mayweather would be overcome by the younger, stronger fighter. Yet, what we all witnessed was a “master” boxer simply dominating a much younger, stronger but far less experienced fighter in Saul Alvarez. Many analyst and to some extent myself believed that Mayweather would fight in a defensive demeanor and allow Alvarez and the judges to steal the fight from Mayweather. A DREAM DEFERRED! What would Dr. King do if he were alive today now that his "signature" accomplishment (Section 4 of The Voting Rights Act of 1965) which he fought and “died” for has been struck down by the Supreme Court? What would Dr. King think about the civil rights leaders of today? America (not just Black America) needs to take another look at the leadership that we entrust with the sacred task of gaurding the civil rights of the American People. For far too long we have witnessed the "decay" of our leadership, from honorable and selfless men and women of the people, to narcissistic "capitalist" who are for sale to any corporate interest willing to stack their pockets full of cash. Selling out to the highest bidder and not even considering the consequences of their actions. The people we have at the helm of our top civil rights organizations are more like "money grabbing opportunist” than civil rights leaders, featherin...

Council-woman Donna Reed Miller of the 18 th Council District introduced the Bill. Mayor NutteR explained how ex-offenders face many stumbling blocks when attempting to re-enter society, employment being only one of them. “One of their greatest challenges is overcoming their criminal records. This legislation will make it easier for ex-offenders to be judged by their abilities, as opposed to their past.” On April 20, 2011, I faxed a “BAN THE BOX” Proposal to every member of the Corrections Committee in the New York State Assembly and members of the New York State Senate.
